Bridge to Life Ministries Inc. (BTLM) was founded in 1995 by Mark Carrington, a visionary who felt drawn to fill the needs of the underserved through community education. The organization was centered in Lithonia, Georgia, and served the Greater Atlanta area through radio programming and community lectures. The ministry also extended internationally. BTLM primarily assessed the spiritual needs of individuals and responded to them on an individual basis.
After Mark’s untimely death, his brother Selwyn Carrington M.D. expanded components of the ministry, making it more holistic. Additionally, the ministry expanded its international services. Currently medical and mental health educational services are provided as part of the ministry’s outreach. Efforts are focused on disease prevention and mental health counseling to individuals experiencing major distresses. Social support services have also been incorporated.
Ministry staff cover administrative responsibilities, public relations, fundraising, financial affairs, technology and coordination of the various parts of the program. Volunteer nurses, dentist, allied health personnel, and physicians form the core of the organization. Other supporters: educators, counselors and pastors, teach the patrons of the sponsored clinics how to improve physical, mental, social, and spiritual challenges in their lives.
Since its inception, BTLM has rapidly gained a reputation for providing professional medical and mental health care. On our international mission trips, we introduce and provide updated medical equipment to the nursing staff at the clinical facilities visited, keep medical cabinets stocked with supplies, and provide literature for patients using clinic services. After a stint overseas, we continue these services as requested by the countries served. We also make expert professional advice available as needed for follow-up care as we are able.
In the United States we sponsor sought-after health education and health promotion programs solely or in collaboration with othe organizations. All this is done with funds donated by Bridge To Life Ministries founders, volunteer workers and partners.
With a holistic philosophy for health, successful campaigns have been undertaken in the United States and annual ventures in various Caribbean islands: Jamaica, Barbados, Cayman Islands, St. Kitts, Grenada and Dominica, and the South American country of Guyana. We have also supported other programs at home and abroad for other organizations.
Our mission projects feature a team of volunteer physicians, nurses, dentists, psychologists, educators, counselors, spiritual leaders and other support personnel. We take 2-3 weeks from our busy schedules to run daily medical clinics, provide interactive health education lectures, and mental health counseling. Clothing and other amenities are also provided to needy individuals. In the evenings, holistic preventive health lectures are presented to the local community to help improve wellness.
In underserved communities in the United States, BTLM sponsors or participates in weekend health fairs, provide health information and equipment, and sponsor health lectures in underserved communities to encourage better health.
